CHAPTER 8 : ACCESSING ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION - DATA WAREHOUSE

Data Warehouse Fundamental
1)      Data warehouse is a logical collection of information that are gathered from many different operational database.
2)      Data warehouse model compiles information from internal database or transactional operational databases and external databases through extraction, transformations and loading (ETL).
3)      Data warehouse then send subsets of the information to data mart.
4)      Data mart contains subset of data warehouse information.



Multidimensional Analysis And Data Mining
1)      A relational database information in a series of two dimensional tables.
2)      A cube is a common term for the representation of multidimensional information.
3)      Data Mining – the process of analyzing data to extract information not offered by the raw data alone. Also known as “knowledge discovery” – computer-assisted tools and techniques for sifting through and analyzing vast data stores in order to finds trends, patterns and correlations that can guide decision making and increase understanding.



Information Cleansing or Scrubbing
1)      Information Cleansing or Scrubbing is a process that weeds out and fixes or discards inconsistent, incorrect or incomplete information.
2)      Information cleansing activities includes missing records or attributes, redundant records, missing keys or other required data, erroneous relationships or references and inaccurate data.

Business Intelligence
1) Business Intelligence (BI) refers to applications and technologies that are used to gather, provides access, analyze data and information to support decision making efforts.
2) Business intelligence has now become the art of sifting through large amount of data, extracting information, and turning the information into actionable knowledge.
